Dance Classes

River Road Park has a new dance teacher!

"Hi! My name is Amy Martindale. I have been dancing since 2002. I’ve done the majority of my training in Ballet, Jazz and Modern, but I’ve tried almost everything. In 2015 I graduated New Hope Christian College with a Bachelors in Ministry Leadership and an emphasis in Dance Ministry.  I am a fifth generation modern dancer trained in the Isadora Duncan style, with the bulk of that training being from one of the pioneers of University of Oregon’s graduate dance program. This is my second year being a full time teacher, teaching students ages 3-18.  I can’t wait to meet your kids and help them tap into their creativity! Please stop by and check us out!"

Dance education provides more than just technical dance skill development. Through consistent dance training, children can develop better posture, coordination, balance, endurance, grace, poise, timing and rhythm, self-confidence, discipline of body and mind, self-esteem, socialization and teamwork skills. Observation-We ask that you limit your visitation of the dance classes to the first and last day of the session. We have a minimum number of students required to run classes. Please register at least 1 week in advance.

Pre-Ballet/Jazz

Ages 3-4. Join us for a fun, creative introduction to ballet and creative dance! In this beginning class, we’ll twirl, plie, balance, skip, hop, and more while practicing important skills like staying in line and following the leader. We’ll learn our first few ballet foot positions as well as some of the arms, balances, and twirls, but dancers will also get to use their creativity to make up their own beautiful moves. No special clothes or shoes required, but come ready to move and have fun! (If you’ve taken dance classes with us before, this class is similar to Twinkle Toes.) Instructor: Amy Martindale.

At this level we’ll move toward putting steps together in combinations and responding to music. Dancers should wear comfortable clothes they can move around in, and no special shoes are required. Instructor: Amy Martindale.

Dance Sampler 1

Ages 6-9. This beginning-level dance class is perfect for dancers with or without formal dance experience. We’ll do some creative movement--where dancers will make up and explore their own moves--as well as learning new steps and kinds of movement together. We’ll do a bit of hip hop, tap, jazz, and ballet, so this class will let you move your way whatever your favorite is! No special shoes or clothes required, but do come ready and dressed to move a lot! (This class is similar to what we used to call Tiny Dancers.) Instructor: Amy Martindale.
