DanceDance Program

River Road Park has a new dance teacher!

Let’s Dance! Maddie is a senior at the University of Oregon studying Public Relations, and captain of the UO Dance Team. She grew up in Southern California and started dancing at the age of 2. She spent two summers in New York City training with the Radio City Rockettes, and many summers training with Backhause Dance in Orange, CA. She is excited to start dancing with the students of River Road Park and Recreation District and open their eyes to the world of dance!


$20 ID/$30 OD per month

Level 1 (Ages 4- 6)

New to beginner dancers. We will work on basic terms and skills in each style of dance. Explore and make connections with movement and our friends in the class.


Level 2 (Ages 7 – 10)

Beginning to intermediate dancers will learn and refresh skills. Review terminology in each style and continue to make friendships with other dancers and explore dance qualities. New dancers are welcome.


Level 3 (Ages 11 – 15)

Intermediate dancers will work with more complex skill and learn more difficult terms as the class continues. They will learn and rehearse short routines monthly, to practice memory and performance skill. Some dance background is preferred.



Ballet Monday

Piano Lessons

All ages.

Kids and adults, all levels. 30-minute individual piano lessons with experienced teacher, performer and composer Ashley Wright. Lessons are customized to your musical goals and tastes, and include repertoire study, theory, sight reading, ear training, and improvisation. Ashley connects from the heart with each student in a spirit of fun!

Guitar / Voice

Ages 10+. Melody Joy Jackson has been teaching music since 1999 and absolutely loves it! Melody offers guitar and voice lessons teaching fundamentals as well as practical application in music. Her teaching approach is based on her students learning style and interests.  Melody has been giving private lessons and directing music programs on the Oregon Coast for many years and has now relocated to Eugene.  Lessons are offered once per week and scheduled through the instructor on a monthly bases. To schedule a lesson, contact Melody Joy at 541-264-0610 or by email at melodyjoyjackson@gmail.com. Fees are due in full at the beginning of the month. Please stop by or call the Park District Office at (541) 688-4052 to pay for your lessons once you have scheduled them with the instructor. Make up lessons may be rescheduled with the instructor. No refunds for missed lessons.

Tae Kwon Do

Ages 7+. Tae Kwon Do is a traditional Korean martial art performed with empty hands, bare feet and a strong spirit. Students in the beginning class will learn kicking and hand techniques for self-defense, while developing their physical fitness and self-confidence. The intermediate class offers advanced training in non-contact sparring forms of self-defense skills for students wishing to advance in the belt ranking system. This is an excellent sport the whole family can enjoy together.  Held at the Gymnastics Center, 30043 Leghorn Road.  Register at the Center or call 541-688-8955. Instructor: John B. Camp.

Jujitsu and Karate

Ages 7-13. Jujitsu and Karate training includes learning to fall safely, striking, kicking, grappling, throws, non-contact sparring, weapons defense, and ground-fighting. Students will learn martial arts for self-defense, health and personal development. The Jujitsu and Karate youth class is specifically designed for ages 7-13. Held at RRPRD Gymnastics Center, 30043 Leghorn Road. Instructors: Sensei Dave DeHart, and Dave Hulegaard.

Jujitsu and Karate instruction includes the core principles and advanced concepts of the martial arts as well as striking, grappling, throws, falling safely, ground-fighting and weapons defense. Shorin-Ryu Karate Sensei Dave DeHart, and Self-Defense Instructor Dave Hulegaard co-instruct each class with Danzan-Ryu Jujitsu 8th degree black belt Professor Don Cross. Held at RRPRD Gymnastics Center, 30043 Leghorn Road.

Winter Break Camp

Open to children grades 1-5. Join us for a winter vacation you are sure to remember! We’ll be swimming, playing games, sports activities, doing arts and crafts and going on field trips. Snacks will be provided. Children should bring a sack lunch, a swimming suit and a towel each day. Register at the Park office. Space is limited. Drop off for camp begins at 7:30a.

Safe Sitter Spring Break Camp

Ages 11-13. Let’s add a little spring twist to our Safe Sitter classes! Not only will we offer our usual Safe Sitter program but we will add crafts, outdoor activities and swimming in our indoor pool here at the Park! Safe Sitter classes prepare young adolescents to be safe, nurturing babysitters. They will receive hands on training in areas such as: Child Care Essentials, Safety for the Sitter, Injury Management and introduces Preventing Injuries and Behavior Management. Developed in 1980 by an Indianapolis pediatrician, Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program that teaches boys and girls how to handle emergencies when caring for young children. Each student will receive The Safe Sitter Babysitter’s Handbook. This class includes choking rescue, but does not include CPR. Please bring a swim suit, towel and a lunch. Held at River Road Park and Recreation, 1400 Lake Dr. Register at River Road Park or call 541-688-4052. Class is limited to 8 students.
