Dance Classes

River Road Park has a new dance teacher!

"Hello everyone, I’m Gwen! I am so excited to be partnering with River Road Park for this years dance program! I am very much looking forward to working with the fresh faces of Eugene in the school year to come! I began my training at the wee age of 3, at Neylon Dance Studio in Cleveland, Ohio.

From the start I was trained in the varying principles of ballet, tap and jazz. Around the age of 10, I began adding other genres of dance into my repertoire including modern, contemporary, pointe and hip hop. I also have spent several summers at dance intensives in New York City. I studied Russian ballet technique at the Brighton Ballet School. I attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York City to major in dance.

I have received mentions for my modern technique at Ohio Dance Masters conventions. I have been teaching ages 3-21+ for about 5 years now. I have taught styles such as ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, pointe, hip hop and production.

In a beginning-level class, students can expect to learn the fundamentals of each style of dance as well as appropriate dance class etiquette. This includes how to effectively warm up/stretch, how to work with your individual body type, terminology, positions of the feet and body and most importantly how to be comfortable in your own skin! Dance is truly a medium for expression and I always encourage my students to really “feel” not only how their body is moving but the intention behind each and every motion."

Suggested dance attire:

Ballet: Pink footed tights, leotard, ballet slippers, HAIR PULLED BACK NEATLY IN BUN.

Jazz: Athletic wear, something you can move comfortably in, please pair shorts with tights underneath in case of floor-work. Black or tan jazz shoes. Hair pulled away from face.

Tap: Any color tights and leotard, may be paired with shorts. Black tap shoes. ALL BEGINNERS MUST START IN 1 INCH HEELS! Hair pulled away from face.

Hip Hop: Street wear is fine, as long as you can move comfortably. Tennis shoes are a must.

All classes run on a monthly basis from May through September and are ongoing. You may join at any time providing there is space.

$20 ID/$25 OD per month. Payment is due by the 5th of each month. No pro rating for missed classes.
